Penny Stanley is our candidate in the 2010 local elections.
Penny's election address describes her thus: "Labour Party activist, Penny Stanley, has always been interested in addressing local neighbourhood issues. Having worked full-time in the Voluntary and Community Sector at grass-roots level for almost twenty years, Penny now wants to continue campaigning for local people and their concerns by becoming a local councillor.
Penny’s aim is to be hard-working, effective, and be accessible to all. She will champion local service users and ensure that all people can be involved in local decision-making. In brief, Penny wants to make a difference.
Penny lives in New Mill with husband Colin and the youngest of their four children, Alex."
Bob Vant is the Branch Chairman.
He is a 53 year-old ex-History teacher who took early retirement due to ill health. He is a regular writer of letters to the press, and his name appears on the letters pages of the Holme Valley Express and Huddersfield Examiner on a weekly, if not daily, basis.
Former school teacher, Cath Ingham is Branch Secretary; she has been a resident of Holmfirth for more than 25 years and is not one to sit back and wait for things to happen.
A former Parish Councillor, she has been involved in all manner of community activities and was instrumental in getting speed limits reduced and permit parking established in the town. She wants a big push on getting the area cleaned up in general, and in particular to see more dog poo bins.
Kali Mountford was born in Crewe in 1954. She is married with two children and three grandchildren and lives in Slaithwaite.
A former Sheffield City Councillor, she has been the Member of Parliament for the Colne Valley since 1997.
She has been both a member of the Social Security Select Committee and of the Treasury Select Committee.
Kali moved the amendment to the Education Standards Act to abolish caning in private education and also the amendment to the Local Government Act to abolish the much maligned Section 28. She campaigned successfully to keep women's & children's health services in Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and also won support for a Primary Care Trust for South Huddersfield. She is a long-time campaigner for animal welfare, and for the protection of our children from alcopops and underage drinking.
